Caring Friends, Inc. and Global Health Awards in Texas Medical Center

In 2013-2014 Caring Friends, Inc. worked with new non profit Houston Global Health Collaborative, granting awards totaling $9000+ to 22 healthcare students in schools of medicine, nursing, public health and pharmacy.
The Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas is home to thousands of healthcare students and professionals who have a strong interest in global health in underserved areas of the world.
Service Grant
$1000 – 2 students at $500 each
Year-long project to serve women refugee population in Houston, TX awarded August 2014.
Travel Grant
$300 – 6 students at $50 each
Nursing group from UST who went on a mission trip in collaboration with Casa Angelina Orphanage to Antigua, Guatemala awarded August 2014.
Essay Contest. Awards varying from $1000 to $500 based on essays connecting the applicants spiritual, philosophical or humanitarian values to their commitment to global health
Eight (8) students , awarded March 2013.
Travel/Service Grant
$3,000 of CF money ($500 of which came from the STS funding) – 6 students at $500 each
Trip to Honduras to serve the local community of San Pedro Sula in a medical brigade and to collect samples for pilot data on neglected tropical diseases, all UTH medical students, awarded March 2013.
