Clean Water: Haiti Schools, Clinics, Orphanages

Almost 6000 people die each day from water borne diseases, many of them children under 5 years of age.

Over one billion people in the world drink polluted water daily, and many Haitian children suffer from waterborne illnesses.

Caring Friends is an adjunct partner with Pure Water for the World.

GOAL:

  • Provide clean water and prevent diseases that lead to death.

Haiti: Water Well

When donors collectively contribute $2000, a water well will be dug for villagers in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Cholera and other water borne diseases contribute to high death rates in Haiti.
Donor designated contributions totaling $2000 produce a water well in Haiti!

Sustainability: Wells are dug only if the villagers help plan, implement and take ownership of the well while receiving basic hygiene and sanitation training.

Haiti: Biosand Filters for School, Clinic or Orphanage

Thousands of school children drink unfiltered, contaminated water in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Water borne diseases like Cholera produce devastating health issues, and created epidemics in 2011, 2012 and 2013 in parts of Haiti.

Donor designated contributions of $1500 put biosand filters and pure water in a very poor school in Haiti.  The result: clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitation training for hundreds of children each school year.

Sustainability: Bio sand filters in a school for 150-300 children will be installed AFTER 3 days of required training for maintenance  and hygiene training for principals/teachers and AFTER the school leaders sign a covenant to maintain the filters.

Failure to maintain the filters can result in taking the filters out of the school and putting them in a school that will maintain them.
