Haiti: Biosand Filters for School, Clinic or Orphanage

Thousands of school children drink unfiltered, contaminated water in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Water borne diseases like Cholera produce devastating health issues, and created epidemics in 2011, 2012 and 2013 in parts of Haiti.

Donor designated contributions of $1500 put biosand filters and pure water in a very poor school in Haiti.  The result: clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitation training for hundreds of children each school year.

Sustainability: Bio sand filters in a school for 150-300 children will be installed AFTER 3 days of required training for maintenance  and hygiene training for principals/teachers and AFTER the school leaders sign a covenant to maintain the filters.

Failure to maintain the filters can result in taking the filters out of the school and putting them in a school that will maintain them.
