Many Haitian children cannot afford to go to school, almost ensuring generational poverty and illiteracy.
In a rural community outside of Pignon, Haiti students can go to school for $125 per student if their families can afford it.
With folks leading the way from Iowa and Minnesota leading the way the past decade, 9 schools have been started, and 3 of the 9 schools now have textbooks.
Having visited and worked with people in Pignon on 8 different occasions since 2009, I was pleased to see the commitment to a hand-up approach to Haitians who desired an education.
Caring Friends committed $1000 in June 2013 to sponsor 8 school children, and we gave $1500 to buy textbooks for almost 150 children at St. Collette Elementary School.
